The Tianqiao Performance Center is situated at the birthplace of the traditional Beijing Crosstalk (Xiangsheng) art form. It is dedicated to the future revival of this venerable art form, and as such, the project incorporates the surrounding urban context to create a blended complex building that features a public plaza, an outdoor step street, theaters, and retail spaces. Its aim is to revitalize the vibrant street life that characterized Beijing in the past and bring it into the modern era. (Beijing, 2006)
